the ending of an era

I have to admit, once the initial high of I’m moving, oh my gosh I’m moving! started to wear off, I found myself dragging my feet a little (okay, a LOT) when it came to the logistics of actually moving. Don’t get me wrong, over the past few months I’ve made some progress here and there. I made lists – long lists, detailed lists. I started dividing possessions into “will be coming” and “won’t be coming”. I gave away or threw away approximately two hundred pounds of unnecessary STUFF that I had managed to accumulate, and I still find myself needing to cut back.

With that massive To Do list not getting any smaller, I gave my inner procrastinator a swift kick yesterday and posted my sunbox for sale on Craigslist. Pulling it out of storage every October is as much a sign that winter’s coming as the dropping temperatures and cinnamon-scented candles.

And now today someone is coming to pick up the tropical fish. They would never tolerate the several day long drive and are too high-maintenance to leave with the family, so this is good. A little sad, but definitely good. Kinda sums up the whole process, really.

Today I am…

- still in my pajamas.

- watching Better Off Ted. “Oh, god, Lem, you’re using science for no good. We took an oath we would try to do that less.”

- sipping a Corona. At lunchtime. With nachos. I love vacation.

- enjoying my light, curly, dreadlock-free hair.

- feeling the fog of S.A.D. finally beginning to lift.

- thinking that 2011 is going to be awesome.
