The overall theme of the commercials last night was so misogynistic it bordered on uncomfortable to watch. That said, there has been a recent cultural trend that cultivates a more overt manliness. Take for example the popularity of books like Rules for my Unborn Son, the readership of web sites like the Art of Manliness, and the existence of Tweetups for men -- called Manups. It's possible that ad agencies noticed this trend and saw dollar signs in it, but what they missed is that it is possible to be a man without being resentful of women.
