A lot of people have asked about this ‘London and Tanzania’ trip that my brother and I are taking. We’re leaving in just over a month, and seeing to all the little details has meant much less time online. My poor neglected little blog.
First and foremost people want to know, when are we leaving?
Stephen and I will be flying to London on June 29th and will spend a few days exploring the city before catching our flight to Kilimanjaro, Tanzania (by way of Nairobi), on July 3rd. Our program placement in Tanzania is from July 4th until August 1st – four weeks total. Then we’ll fly back to London for a couple days of R&R, and arrive home in the states on August 4th.
Who are we going with?
We’ll be in London on our own (scary, I know). We chose London because it actually *saved* us money on our flights, and because we really wanted to visit someplace new. In Tanzania we’ll be with Cross Cultural Solutions, an international volunteer organization. Our home base is near Moshi, right at the base of Mount Kilimanjaro.
So…what will we be doing?
You can read more about Cross Cultural Solutions’ mission here, and then read about what a typical day for a volunteer looks like. We won’t know our specific placements until just before the trip, but we do know that we’ll be volunteering five days a week from about breakfast time until lunch. Our afternoons may include anything from language learning to cultural activities, or just down time for us to explore the city, and weekends are free for us to do as we please.

I’m sure I’ll be writing more about the trip as it approaches, and will likely be bringing my laptop on the road with us to blog about our experiences this summer. Any further questions I’d be more than happy to answer.

I’m really looking forward to hearing about your time in Tanzania.
