The Class

In an imaginative adaptation of his own novel about his experiences working in one of Paris’s roughest neighborhoods, François Bégaudeau stars as himself — a passionate French teacher who presides over a classroom of diverse young minds. Not your standard drama or documentary but something in between, this film (nominated for a Best Foreign Film Oscar) employed three cameras during a largely improvisational shoot and features real students rather than actors.

Hannah is sick, so no school today, just lots of Vitamin C, tissues and television. We are currently watching reruns of The Office.

I need to work on some of the photos I’ve taken this past week. I shot over 300 at the beach yesterday, only to discover once they were on my computer that there was a glob of dust on my sensor. So not cool. If I’m feeling especially ambitious, I might also go for a walk, take a shower and finish the grocery list. But I dunno…this chair is REALLY comfortable.

It’s taken me a few days to recover from the exhaustion that was a dozen services in barely a week. Pascha was wonderful, of course. In the words of Fr. Alexander Schmemann, "From its very beginning Christianity has been the proclamation of joy, of the only possible joy on earth. It rendered impossible all joy we usually think of as possible." Boo-yeah.

And with the celebration of the Resurrection comes the arrival of sunshine and warm weather. Life is beautiful.
