(apologies for the sporadic posting: it’s mid-winter, in New England, and the seasonal blues can be hard to shake. Luckily, pets can be some of the very best therapy.)

take me away
I was watching
Anyway…hello, tangent.
She was talking a bit about journaling, and how it’s not really a good thing *not* to write when life is somewhat sucky, because you should get it out. Which leads me to wonder where that leaves me, when my life is okay, but I just perceive it to be sucky because I am possessed of sucky brain chemistry. And I just used ‘sucky’ three times in one sentance. Go me.
I absolutely love my home and it’s the last place I want to be lately.
And of course, with every depression comes total apathy, which is why I haven’t been online much, or writing here. I just don’t feel like doing anything (combined with: "I hate moping around this house all day". Does it make sense? Not really.) Some days, like yesterday, Project 365 is the only thing that gets me to pick up my camera. Which is saying a lot.
So I’m doing my best to eat healthy foods, lots of fruit smoothies and plenty of water. I take my vitamins, am well rested, and have been waking up early to pray and meditate. I’m even sitting in front of my sun lamp at the moment, and when our new elliptical arrives, I’ll be back to an exercise routine that I love. But nothing really makes it GO AWAY. So I keep pushing through it, making myself do things and go places, and reminding myself that Spring is just a blessed few months away.
There wasn’t really an overarching point to this whole thing…I just thought it might be good to get it out.
I can’t decide if this is strange or innovative…or maybe a little of both.
Google tool uses search terms to detect flu outbreaks
If you have a fever, headache and runny nose, you might go to Google and type the words “flu symptoms” to see whether you’ve come down with influenza.
Google knows that you might do something like that, and it also knows which U.S. state you’re in. Now, it’s putting that information together in a tool that Google says could detect flu outbreaks faster than traditional systems currently in use.
Google’s new public health initiative, Google Flu Trends, looks at the relative popularity of a slew of flu-related search terms to determine where in the U.S. flu outbreaks may be occurring.
inauguration day
Also known in our house as ‘homeschool history-in-action’ day. We had spent Monday reading about Civil Rights and learning about Martin Luther King Jr., which made Tuesday’s ceremony all the more poignant. Hannah and I curled up on the couch and watched the whole thing, knowing that it was a beautiful moment for our country.
Though we didn’t watch any of the later celebration, today Jo posted the video of the Obama’s first dance, and my heart swelled all over again. I must just be in a mushy sweet mood lately: during the musical interlude before Obama’s swearing in, Michelle reached forward and gave him a little squeeze on the shoulder. Hannah and I rewound the coverage so that we could see it again. We’re completely hopeless.
