holy wednesday

As the sinful woman was bringing her offering of myrrh,
Thy disciple was scheming with lawless men
She rejoiced in pouring out her precious gift;
He hastened to sell the precious One.
She recognized the Master, but Judas parted from Him.
She was set free, but Judas was enslaved to the enemy.
How terrible his slothfulness!
How great her repentance!
O Savior, who didst suffer for our sakes,
Grant us also repentance, and save us.

holy tuesday: the hymn of st. kassiani

Receive the springs of my tears
You who gathers the waters of the oceans into clouds,
Bend to me, to the sorrows of my heart,

You who bends down the heavens
in Your self-emptying Incarnation,
I will kiss with my lips Your immaculate feet

And dry them with the locks of my hair;

Those very feet

Whose sound Eve heard at the dusk in Paradise

And hid herself in fear.

Who shall count the multitude of my sins

Or the depth of Your judgment,
O Saviour of my soul?
Do not ignore Your handmaiden,

O Lord whose mercy is endless.

holy monday: christ, the bridegroom

They have stripped me of my garments
And clothed me in a scarlet robe.
They have set upon my head a crown of thorns
And given me a reed in my right hand.
That I might dash them to pieces like a potter’s vessel.

Behold, the Bridegroom comes at midnight, and blessed is that servant whom He shall find watching. And again, unworthy is that servant, whom He shall find heedless. Beware, therefore, O my soul, do not be weighed down with sin, lest you be given up to death, and lest you be shut out of the Kingdom. But rouse yourself and cry: Holy, Holy, Holy art Thou, O God, through the Theotokos, have mercy on us!
