We cheated – we opened all of our presents last night.
It was after the Christmas Eve service and our Chinese take-out dinner and what can I say? We were in the mood. We unwrapped our gifts and stayed up until midnight to wish each other ‘Merry Christmas’.
And then we slept in.
Now we’re relaxing and waiting for the Turducken to finishing cooking. I have to work today, but to be honest, I volunteered. My boss couldn’t find anyone else to cover and she (a new mother-in-law and a first-time grandma) was going to have to fill in. Of course, don’t give me the altruism award just yet: the perk is that I’m being paid eight hours of holiday time while only working four hours. God bless us, everyone.
You know you must be curious…
Stephen gave me The Onion’s Our Dumb World: Atlas of the Planet Earth. It’s 100% hilariously, awesomely awesome. Totally.
From Mom and Dad…
- socks! (no, really, they’re the nice ones. Smart Wool with really funky patterns.)
- Animal, Vegetable, Miracle
- a box to hold sewing supplies, a pair of professional quality scissors, and a gift card to Joann’s Fabrics
- a Moonbeam Alarm Clock
- a receipt for a pre-ordered copy of the complete Orthodox Study Bible
- an Aroma Joe’s gift card
- Burt’s Bees ‘Hand Repair Kit’ (it smells soooo good!)
plus cool things in my stocking like incense, car air freshener, ‘Finding Nemo’ on DVD, and pencils (okay, so there’s this one type of mechanical pencil that I really love)
The cats are loving their new catnip toys, Rex is happily shredding tissue paper, Stephen is playing his new electronic resonator guitar (numero quatro in his growing collection), and Hannah is wearing her new Converse All-Stars while playing with Jack and Sally.
It’s been a good Christmas so far.

I have to know what brand of pencils they are, I am a big Zebra fan and I have a favorite model, but I have worn the print off of them so I can’t remember what type they are.
They’re Papermate Sharpwriters. They’re pretty common but definitely one of my favorites:

Boo! You’re not allowed to open presents on Christmas Eve! It’s still my birthday and not Christmas until you’ve gone to bed!
Conditioned response. I also always fake getting annoyed when people insist on telling me “Merry Christmas” at Christmas Eve services (to my family later, not to the people themselves). Sucks having a Christmas Eve birthday sometimes.
Oooh, that has to be tough. At least mine is five days after Christmas, and the day before New Year’s Eve, so there isn’t a whole lot of confusion there.
Happy Belated B-Day! :-)
