For some reason, this came to mind today…

Spiritual Warfare

And yes, I can still vividly recall hurling grapes and apples at the bad guys. I’m fairly certain it’s one of the few computer games that has ever been unanimously approved for us poor, sheltered pastors’ kids.

so it turns out…

That my brother’s very-first-ever-girlfriend is a Jehovah’s Witness. Only they don’t call themselves JW’s. They celebrate birthdays and holidays, and they don’t go door-to-door (don’t know where they stand on the ever-controversial blood transfusion issue) but they do agree on several key tenets that orthodox Christians hold fast (little ‘o’ orthodox, those that affirm the Nicene Creed).
While casting absolutely no aspersions regarding the fate of their souls (God’s job, not ours) Dad did have to make it clear that her parents will likely try to evangelize my dear brother. Poor kid. He’s kind of in a funk now. She’s such a sweet girl and I would be lying if I didn’t think they’d make great in-laws, but still…

I must admit to feeling completely and totally *not* ready to leave in a week.

It’s not like I’ve never done this before, in fact, I’m a rather seasoned international traveller. But I guess it’s because I’m leaving during the middle of the semester, when I have about a billion-and-one responsibilities, that means I have very little time to think about the fact that I will be on another continent in a mere 7 1/2 days.

The one thing that I have put a lot of thought into with regard to the trip is my wardrobe. Namely, the fact that most of my clothes scream “I’m a college student and I live in Maine therefore I dress in layers that are almost entirely from L.L. Bean.” They don’t quite mesh with the whole cosmopolitan Mediterranean look.

So I’ve been shopping. Thrift shopping, that is.

And I am the master (mistress?) of finding good deals. Between the clearance racks at Target, Marshall’s and TJ Maxx, along with a few local thrift shops, I have almost an entirely new wardrobe for less than $100. Go me!

I did splurge on shoes. These are perhaps the most adorable shoes I have ever owned:

Mandarin

And these puppies are just comfy-with-a-capital-C, perfect for that long plane ride:

AE Clogs

(and the eBay seller? Very nice.)
I just don’t even want to think about what I need to get done this week. But no matter what, it’s going to be great. I’m going to Turkey. Woot!
